Alora

Alora was born to two wandering elves. Her father was a skilled but compulsive gambler who never saw a bet he didn’t like. Her mother was a long-suffering archer who often had to use her wit or deadly skill to bale him out of trouble. After her birth in the High Forest, the family traveled down to the city of Loudwater and then followed the river Delimeter to the Coast of Swords. Eventually they made their way to Waterdeep when Alora was about seven. Despite their constant journey, the family was happy.
It was here where tragedy struck. Her father got in deep with a gambling house, aggravated a local boss, and neither he nor her mother were able to escape the criminal underworld’s growing threats. In desperation (and deeply worried that Alora would pay the price), her parents hastily dropped her off at the orphanage and fled the city, hoping draw the bounty hunters off her scent. They promised to return shortly. That was the last time she saw her parents.

This is the defining moment of Alora life and has left her with a deeply conflicted identity. On one hand, she desperately wants her parents to alive, but if they are, why have they not come for her? At least if they are actually dead, she would know that they did not abandon her. This has left her with dueling values and emotions. For example, Alora greatly wants a family but is afraid of abandonment. Thus, she seeks to become physically, financially, and emotionally self-reliant, so that she will never have to be hurt again. This is way she wants to become a master thief/assassin, able to work alone in the dark and not needing to depend on anyone. Entirely independent. And yet, Alora has found herself with an unlikely family at the orphanage. She loves her adopted siblings but fears of intimacy and abandonment plague her. How does she justify leaving them? How can she bring her skills to the groups benefit? Can she be a thief with a heart of gold? Which path will she choose? Will she decide to pursue a life of an independent rogue or risk her heart for her new family?
