Mary

Mary Caen, sister of Abric, grew up as the only daughter in a family of six. Her mother and father were attendants at Candlekeep, the bastion of learning on the Sword Coast. Her father especially was a lover of books and learning, spending his entire life and most of his earnings on buying new tomes. As a result, Mary grew up reading, not knowing that both her access to books and her ability to read were uncommon. She was a bright young woman, remarkably so, and had a special place in her heart for broken and hurt things. She began helping people with their injuries at a young age, especially the miners that worked nearby. When she was twelve the mine collapsed, trapping over thirty people in the depths. While the local lord declared there was nothing to be done, Mary and her brother Abric thought otherwise. The two found a small crack in the mine cliff and delved inside. They spent two days in the winding cave system of the mine, at one point becoming so lost they almost gave up hope. But in the darkness, with their last torch fading, Mary and Abric prayed to a little known god named Ibrandul. They were familiar with the god due to the small circle of worshipers among the miners. Ibrandul heard their pleas for help and gave Mary and Abric each a light spell to cast. He also guided the two siblings to the trapped miners. Later the miners would say it was as if a pair of angels appeared and showed them the path to the surface. After the celebrations ended, both Mary and Abric knew that they had been chosen for something special. They dedicated their lives to Ibrandul. Mary is an accomplished Cleric and healer. She splits her time between the infirmary at the Gaelin Orphanage and the temple to Ibrandul far below the city. She is the key leader, guiding the reconstruction of the destroyed temple. Now that her clerical powers have been restored, Mary has plans to spread Ibrandul’s word to those who need help. She remains committed to helping the Orphans in any way she can, especially Kevros, with whom she has a strong bond.
